There are two stacks of cards: Situation Cards and Judgment Cards.
1) Pick a player to be the first Judge. This person will take one Situation Card and read it out loud for the group. These cards contain random situations, for example, a woman’s sweater clogging a toilet that the group will have to justify.
2) The Judge will take one Judgment Card and keep it a secret. This is how the winning story will be decided. These cards contain categories, for example, the most realistic or most relatable story.
3) Each player will create their own backstory about the scenario on the Situation Card and share it out loud with the group. The stories can be as reasonable or outrageous as you want!
For example:
SITUATION- A toilet clogged with a sweater.
Backstory: “She had a fashion emergency on a date!”
4) Once each player tells their tall tale, the Judge will then read the Judgment Card aloud and use their discretion to award the Situation Card to the player whose story they felt best matched the category on the Judgment Card.
JUDGMENT: The most outrageous story
The types of tales may vary; you might have an elaborate, simple, dumb, funny, or completely factual story. But the catch is, you don’t know how your story will be judged until the end of the round. The judge conceals the contents of the Judgment Card until every player has gone. They then reveal the Judgment Card and award the Situation Card to the winner, which can sometimes create a lot of debate, gloating and competitive-fire, which will keep you entertained and spice up any gathering.
Note: If no one’s story matches the Judgment category, the Judge can use their discretion and pick the winner on their own OR pick a new Judgment Card .
5) After the winner is awarded each round, the role of the judge can rotate around the group.
6) The goal of the game is to collect as many Situation Cards as possible. At the end, the person with the most Situation cards wins, and can sport the Chronic Liars Winner pin! We recommend playing until someone has accumulated 10 situation cards. The judgment cards can be reshuffled if necessary.
